ROLE SUMMARY
The Chaplain offers direct spiritual guidance and support tailored to the beliefs and desires of patients and their families, in alignment with the policies and procedures of Arkansas Hospice. This role may also involve engaging in community outreach initiatives as necessary.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Completion of an accredited seminary or theological institution, or relevant certification in hospital or pastoral care ministry.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
A minimum of three years of experience in pastoral care, ideally within a hospice, home health, hospital, or similar healthcare environment.
ADDITIONAL CRITERIA
Flexibility in work hours may be required. A valid driver's license, vehicle, and insurance are necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver spiritual support and counsel to patients and families in accordance with their beliefs.
- Address spiritual and bereavement needs as identified through assessments.
- Collaborate with staff, clergy, and community organizations to enhance awareness of the spiritual needs of patients and families facing terminal illness.
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to evaluate and report on the spiritual needs of patients and families.
- Create a spiritual care plan based on initial assessments.
- Engage with the bereavement program as needed, providing follow-up services and participating in memorial services.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient and family visits.
- Work in partnership with clergy or appropriate representatives as needed.
- Facilitate or coordinate funeral or memorial services for patients as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain a network of clergy for delegated aspects of spiritual care.
- Assist in the orientation of new hospice staff and contribute to ongoing training programs.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
- Provide educational resources for community clergy and lay representatives as requested.
- Uphold confidentiality at all times.
- Exhibit excellent customer service skills, assisting patients, families, and colleagues while promoting teamwork.
- Follow guidance from supervisors and seek clarification when necessary, working independently.
- Comply with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
- Consistently meet attendance and punctuality standards, notifying supervisors of any absences or delays.
- Attend mandatory meetings and seek opportunities for professional development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
