Job Summary

The Child Crisis Intervention Specialist provides high-quality de-escalation and assessment services to clients in crises to ensure safety, divert inappropriate Baker Acts of youth, and to maintain current placement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responds to intervention calls with a 60-minute response time by physically reporting to the crisis site to assess and evaluate the child in need of immediate mental health services
  • Distinguishes between a mental health crisis and behavioral emergency on the basis of potential harm to the child or others
  • Provides therapeutic insight, immediate de-escalation and continued stabilization assistance as needed, while ensuring the child's dignity is maintained and her or his best interests are accommodated
Requirements
  • Conferred Master's degree in social work, therapeutic mental health counseling or marriage and family therapy disciplines.
  • At least two years' experience providing therapeutic services to children and adolescents and developing treatment plans based on current DSM/ICD diagnoses.
  • FL Baker Act experience
  • Moderate computer skills, such as inputting at least 45 wpm.
  • Reliable transportation with liability insurance, a FL driver's license and good driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • A current FL LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT
  • Knowledge and understanding of the foster care system along with the impacts of foster care placement on youth
  • Prior experience working with foster families in a therapeutic manner
