The successful candidate will engage in research aimed at discovering new therapeutic options through the exploration of natural products and their synthetic analogs. A strong background in medicinal chemistry is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement synthetic methodologies for organic compounds.
2. Utilize advanced analytical techniques, including NMR and mass spectrometry, for compound characterization.
3. Investigate structure-activity relationships to enhance therapeutic efficacy.
4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including molecular modelers and microbiologists.
5. Mentor and supervise research associates and students in the lab.
6. Prepare scientific manuscripts and present findings at academic conferences.
7. Assist the Principal Investigator in managing laboratory operations and resources.
8. Initiate and lead independent research projects.
9. Contribute to departmental service activities as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Medicinal Chemistry.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in medicinal chemistry within a pharmaceutical context.
- A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Current employment with the University of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the synthesis and semi-synthesis of complex natural products.
