About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Obstetric Technician to join our team at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our nursing staff in the delivery of high-quality patient services.

Responsibilities
  • Assist and support nursing staff with direct and indirect patient care, following the plan of care as directed by the RN.
  • Order and stock supplies for OR, PACU, Labor Rooms, and related areas, maintaining readiness of instruments and supplies for OR and vaginal deliveries.
  • Maintain sterile technique in the operative area, including proper scrub, gown, and glove techniques, and arrange the operative table appropriately.
  • Pass instruments and maintain accurate sponge and instrument counts.
  • Assist surgeons in the operating room with procedures such as Cesarean Section, Hysterectomy, Dilation and Curettage, manual removal of placenta, and repair of cervical laceration.
  • Communicate patient information or potential problems to the nurse throughout the shift, reporting timely and accurate changes in the patient's condition.
  • Make rounds and respond to patient/family requests for assistance in a timely manner, promptly answering call lights regardless of who is assigned to care for the patient.
  • Collaborate to ensure patient belongings are promptly stored and valuables are safe, ensuring all belongings are properly gathered, labeled with patient identification, and sent with the patient who is discharged, transferred, or expired.
  • Exercise calm behavior and utilize appropriate judgment while working in a team approach during emergency situations, appropriately participating during crisis situations, isolating and removing other patients and family members, and assisting with and reassuring patients and families.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use of and care for equipment and supplies, following procedures and ensuring equipment is ready to use.
  • Provide for effective and safe patient/customer outcomes through practice, judgment, and critical actions, adhering to current NJ Department of Health regulations, JCAHO, and institutional policies and procedures, and promoting professional ethics/standards.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
  • Certified Surgical Technician or Certified OB Technician (or provides evidence of meeting the requirements of the NJ Surgical Technology Certification law in effect as of 12/21/2011).
  • One year of hospital PCT experience is preferred.
  • Previous OB Tech or Surgical Tech experience in the acute care setting is preferred.
