Job Title: Senior Medical Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Medical Assistant to join our team at Children's Hospital Colorado. As a Senior Medical Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing clinical support to patients and assisting care providers with clinical and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for healthcare visits by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room, providing examination gowns and drapes, and arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patients, reviewing and/or recording medical history, taking vital signs, and confirming the purpose of the visit or treatment.
  • Support patient care delivery by assisting healthcare providers during examinations, preparing laboratory specimens, performing basic testing, disposing of contaminated supplies, cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments, administering medications per policy and procedures, and telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies.
  • Anticipate and lead in balancing workloads and MA assignments and maintaining patient/clinic flow by coordinating with providers and clinic teams.
  • Provide phlebotomy and advanced specimen processing when indicated, complete lab test follow-up and medical record documentation, and prepare and complete medical records for visits.
  • Participate in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by providers, cross-train to multiple specialties/sub-specialties for front and back office, and perform and support patient reception, including performing check-in and check-out, registration, scheduling, and coordinating patient follow-up visits.
  • Creates moderately complex patient correspondence, participates in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) medication management, and may need to synthesize or compile data from multiple areas of medical records to complete forms.
  • Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations, provides general office support, including phone and fax management, and completes daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring of reports and compliance.
  • Serves as a preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment, and monitoring progress, ensures supplies are ready by monitoring inventory, stocking work areas, placing orders, and verifying receipt, and participates in hospital committees as directed by leadership.
  • Serves as a mentor, expert in clinical areas/skills, a safety coach/specialist, and continuously assists in reviewing and assessing peers' skill sets.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited/certified Medical Assistant program.
  • One year in a direct healthcare role.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers/CPR and certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.
Working Conditions:

This position requires frequent standing/walking up to 12 hours per day, frequent use of hands while keyboarding and writing, and frequent sitting up to 2-4 hours per day while accessing computers, talking on the telephone, and attending meetings. The position also requires occasional lifting/force exerted up to 100 pounds, constant use of sight in performance for daily job duties, and constant use of hearing in performance for daily job duties.

This position is exposed to blood/body fluid, exposure to heights, exposure to infectious diseases, and exposure to lung irritations. The position requires independent discretion/decision making, making decisions under pressure, managing stress appropriately, and working with others effectively.
