Job Title: Thermal Engineer, Server Design

We are seeking a highly skilled Thermal Engineer to join our team in Morrisville, NC. As a Thermal Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing thermal solutions for our server products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate system fans from different vendors and measure overall system/server air flow & impedance
  • Evaluate heatsinks from different vendors and run stress on components like CPUs, GPUs, DIMMs etc. and monitor their temperature
  • Review server system concepts and market requirements and enable a thermal solution that is compliant to the specifications of the critical components
  • Select fans, heat sinks, and other thermal solution components which are low cost yet meet all performance requirements
  • Provide mechanical and thermal review for prototyping boards and document and analyze simulation and test results
  • Write test plans and ensure that the printed circuit board layouts permit thermal solution placement and adequate airflow / waterflow to cool all components
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Knowledge in heat transfer and fluid dynamics
  • Experience conducting thermal tests to qualify the server design
  • Experience using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools to predict operating performance of the server, specifically Flotherm CFD
  • Modeling and testing skills to validate a design, example measuring airflow and temperature on the air bench
  • Data acquisition and ability to organize and summarize results
  • Ability to work onsite in Morrisville, NC
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Code skills such as Matlab, Python, or Java to automate data collection and report generation
  • Knowledge of computer firmware code and algorithms that set operating points, and fault conditions
  • Knowledge of CAD, material strength, power consumption, and acoustics requirements and the impact of thermal designs on them
