Reporting To: Lighting Design and Programming Manager
Supervision: Volunteers
Classification: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Flexible hours available, including some evenings, with an expected commitment of approximately 15-20 hours weekly. Work schedules are subject to approval by the Lighting Design and Programming Manager.
Role Summary:
The Event Lighting Technician will assist the Lighting Design and Programming Manager in the evaluation, assembly, and deployment of lighting systems and equipment for various events at the Garden.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, assemble, and deploy lighting systems and equipment. Facilitate the integration of lighting solutions into existing garden infrastructure and programs.
- Adhere to installation timelines and expectations for all lighting projects. Lead volunteer teams in lighting setups as assigned.
- Assist in the construction, installation, and dismantling of displays and lighting setups for events at the Garden.
- Receive training on troubleshooting lighting systems, safety protocols, and event closure procedures. Ensure compliance with OSHA and Garden regulations.
- Conduct nightly maintenance of lighting systems for garden events and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 16 years old with a demonstrated interest in lighting systems or exhibits. Comfort with outdoor work during both day and night hours is essential. Candidates should be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED. Pursuing a degree in electrical engineering or a related field is advantageous. A minimum of one year of experience with RGB lighting is preferred.
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
- Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity to handle electrical components safely and efficiently in accordance with OSHA standards. Normal range of vision with or without correction. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required. Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs. Must be able to navigate between various work sites, often outdoors and on uneven surfaces.
- Work Environment: Primarily outdoor settings on uneven terrain, which may include exposure to inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity. Equipment utilized includes two-way radios, Cushman carts, lighting gear and rigging, hand tools, and electrical testing devices.
