Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team in the Inpatient Pharmacy at our main hospital location in Pittsburgh. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by assisting with medication preparation, filling, and distribution.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in filling medication orders through accurate labeling, counting, and stocking practices.
  • Prepare oral and injectable medications, including intravenous admixtures and TPN, for administration at the correct time.
  • Work in the Sterile Product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs using proper aseptic technique.
  • Participate in medication distribution, including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts, and controlled substances.
  • Retrieve discontinued medications and return them to the pharmacy area.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Assist with the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational and study drugs.
  • Provide and receive information to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Ensure medications are stored according to regulations.
  • Develop and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
  • Practice appropriate hand hygiene.
  • Use computer skills to process and maintain patient information and records.
  • Maintain documentation, including eye wash logs, refrigerator logs, and perpetual inventory logs.
  • Finalize sales using a cash register and follow cash handling policies.
  • Comply with Federal and State laws, regulations, and PBM contracting requirements.
Requirements
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One of the following: completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program, six months of previous pharmacy technician experience, six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within UPMC, enrollment in a college program and in good standing.
  • Act 31, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 clearances with renewal.
