Job Summary

Opelousas General Health System is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Admit Counselor to join our team. As an Admit Counselor, you will be the first point of contact for patients and their families, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring a smooth and efficient registration process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough interviews with incoming patients to gather demographic, insurance, and emergency information
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of paperwork, sign-in, and security procedures
  • Explain facility policies and procedures to patients and their families, preparing and distributing patient identification bands, and arranging for transportation to assigned rooms
  • Collect co-payments and answer phone calls, assisting family members as needed
  • Prepare patient admission documentation and inform patients and their caregivers of hospital procedures, policies, and protocols
  • Provide patients with billing and payment information and address any questions or concerns they may have
  • Explain advance directive questionnaires and obtain necessary signatures and consents
  • Operate department equipment, including fax machines, copiers, computers, and patient wheelchairs

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year of medical or clerical experience preferred
