Proficiency in IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, and interpretation of dysrhythmias.
Target patient ratios: 1:5-6 (Mixed acuity unit with both PCU and Medical-Surgical/Telemetry patients).
- 12-HOUR NIGHT SHIFTS
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 6-week period, with potential for additional shifts based on staffing needs.
Patient Demographics:
Patients include those with COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, COVID-19, influenza, and pulmonary embolisms.
Current Patient Care:
Includes management of COVID-19 patients, including those who have tested positive.
UNIT OVERVIEW:
Our unit operates at a higher acuity level than standard medical-surgical units, supported by a team lead who oversees the entire unit, along with two respiratory therapists and an assistant nurse manager on duty, including weekends.
The unit accommodates ventilator patients, specifically chronic tracheostomy and ventilator-dependent individuals. The total capacity of the unit is 48 beds.The majority of our patients present with COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, and require telemetry monitoring.

Shift Details:
Night shifts of 4x12 hours (18:45 - 07:15). The pay package is based on 12-hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation), including a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
