We are seeking a highly skilled Stationary Engine Operator to join our team at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our stationary engines and mechanical equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and Maintain Equipment: Ensure the smooth operation of our stationary engines, air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, and steam boilers.
- Monitor and Record Data: Regularly check meters and gauges to verify operating conditions and record data such as temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumption, and water levels.
- Perform Routine Maintenance: Adjust manual controls, override automatic controls, and perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure equipment is running within recommended operating ranges.
- Inspect and Troubleshoot: Visually inspect equipment to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
- Record and Report: Maintain accurate records of operation and maintenance actions taken during shifts.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
- Licenses and Certifications: Current and active City of Chicago Operating Engineers license is required.
- Education: Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is a plus.
- Physical Demands: The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
The employee will be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
