About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Bakery Specialist to join our team at Good Food Holdings. As a key member of our bakery team, you will be responsible for producing high-quality bread and pastry products that meet our company's standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare production bakery area for store opening and closing, ensuring a clean and organized workspace.
  • Produce bakery and pastry products by company and regulatory agency standards, adhering to quality control measures.
  • Scales, mixes, shapes, and bakes bread and pastry products, maintaining fermentation methods and ensuring consistency.
  • Order bakery and pastry products and ingredients according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs, maintaining inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Maintain awareness of current ads, promotions, holidays, and events, planning for weekly ads, events, and holidays using tools and reports.
  • Work with Assistant Manager to understand and respond to current store trends, maintaining professional vendor relationships.
  • Ensure the bakery area is clean, attractive, and easy to shop, adhering to merchandising standards, and building displays and arranging department products to make attractive presentations.
  • Stock, rotate, and face products with attention to product quality and expiration dates, receiving and unloading merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition.
  • Communicate any issues to management and merchandising team, maintaining accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Ensure customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered, complying with company organic standards.
  • Slice, package, label, and merchandise bakery products, preparing coffee and other beverages to customer and vendor specifications.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge and familiarity with products in the department, including terminology, labeling, recommended uses, and vendor/supplier information, with skills to continue learning.
  • Partners with department management team to train department clerks in bakery tasks and product knowledge, training to gain proficiency in bakery production tasks.
  • Coordinates with appropriate support teams to plan and conduct in-store tastings, following company procedures for processing invoices, transfers, and credits.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy, maintaining cleanliness, organization, and rotation of all areas, products, and supplies.
  • Participates in inventories, demonstrating an awareness of trends in the industry, and notifies department manager or Manager on Duty (MOD) of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security, or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in baking and pastry arts or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a bakery or related field, with a focus on production and quality control.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 1-10 pounds frequently and up to 20 pounds occasionally, with occasional use of box knife, baler, scanner, hand truck, POS, conveyer belt, industrial kitchen equipment, and basic housekeeping/janitorial and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work in a grocery store environment with moderate noise level, temperature extremes in controlled environments, and exposure to certain allergens and/or chemicals.
