SARA is in search of a highly skilled, driven, and knowledgeable Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist to enhance our operations. This role offers the chance to develop professionally while working alongside a team of talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on ongoing and new initiatives.
The EH&S Specialist will be crucial in ensuring the health and safety of employees through adherence to regulations, comprehensive training, and effective risk management. This position involves active participation in daily site operations and regular communication with personnel at all organizational levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and uphold employee health and safety initiatives while fostering a culture of safety to reduce workplace injuries.
- Understand and apply federal, state, and local safety regulations, ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) standards.
- Develop and revise safety training materials, providing instruction to staff on safety practices and preventive measures.
- Conduct risk assessments of work environments and report findings to safety management.
- Assist in the rollout of new safety protocols.
- Investigate accidents and workplace hazards, recommending corrective actions.
- Evaluate risks associated with processes and new equipment.
- Propose solutions to identified risks, considering both financial and operational implications.
- Support safety and environmental initiatives and improvement projects as directed.
- Keep management informed of regulatory updates that affect compliance.
- Lead initiatives to ensure adherence to environmental health and safety regulations.
- Gather, monitor, report, and analyze key performance data related to environmental health and safety.
- Review incident investigation reports and follow up as necessary.
- Assist in managing hazardous waste on site.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in EH&S or a related discipline (experience may substitute for education).
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical capabilities.
- Physical requirements may include moderate effort, such as standing, sitting, and lifting up to 35 pounds.
- Work environment is typically indoor, moderately quiet, clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated, with some physical hazards.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance, if required.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with OSHA and EPA regulations, particularly in manufacturing or research settings.
- Experience with electrical safety protocols.

Compensation:
Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including location, the individual's unique combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is competitive and reflective of the industry standards.
