We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Sterile Processing Technician to join our team at UVA Health. As a key member of our Sterile Processing Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by processing and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment.
Responsibilities- Independently perform and participate in the decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment.
- Order, receive, conduct cycle counts, pull cases for the Operating Room, stock supplies, instruments, and pans, restock clean cart supplies, expedite supplies to the OR, and stock OMNICELL cabinets with room stock.
- Clean and maintain the Storeroom, verify expiration dates, and ensure correct items are stored in their correct locations.
- Prepare and assemble surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
- Monitor, read, document, and interpret all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function.
- Clean and decontaminate reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies manually and mechanically.
- Operate the departmental bar code system to maintain records for surgical trays and instruments received, processed, and distributed.
- High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- 1-2 years of Sterile Processing experience required.
- Certification as CRCST (Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician) through HSPA or CSPDT (Central Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) through CBSPD.
The job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 25-50lbs. Working in an environment with fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
