Position Overview
The primary objective of this role is to oversee all functions related to inmate management within the correctional facility. This includes processing, monitoring, and ensuring the well-being of inmates through various responsibilities such as booking, searching, and releasing individuals; managing meal distribution; controlling inmate behavior; and facilitating the transfer of inmates to authorized personnel. Regular checks and headcounts of inmates are also essential duties of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage inmate processing by conducting thorough searches; inventorying personal belongings; confiscating unauthorized items; performing screening tests; documenting personal and medical details; completing identification procedures including fingerprinting and photographing; collecting fees; and ensuring the safety and security of inmates.
- Transport inmates by escorting them from their cells; applying restraints as necessary; and ensuring safe transit.
- Oversee meal provision by preparing and serving food to inmates.
- Ensure inmate safety through regular checks and counts; managing access to secure areas; monitoring surveillance systems; observing inmate behavior; and maintaining cleanliness within the facility.
- Handle administrative tasks by reviewing requests; disseminating appropriate information; reporting incidents; providing testimony when necessary; and submitting documentation to relevant departments.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferred experience of six months in a related field.
- TCOLE Jailer certification is preferred or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with colleagues, the public, and officials.
- Ability to interpret and analyze documents.
- Problem-solving skills to address practical issues with limited standardization.
- Proficiency in standard office software, including databases and presentation tools.
- Capability to obtain necessary certifications within specified timeframes.
