The Lead Materials Engineer position is pivotal within our research and development teams. The core responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating within a technically diverse team to provide comprehensive materials engineering and characterization support to Howmet facilities worldwide.
  2. Conducting and overseeing material and anomaly characterization across various materials and processes employed by Howmet Corporation.
  3. Preparing, reviewing, and contributing to technical documents and reports addressing a broad spectrum of metallurgical and materials engineering subjects.
  4. Maintaining regular communication with clients, staff, and management regarding analysis considerations, progress updates, and results.
  5. Assisting in the deployment of laboratory equipment and the development of innovative analytical techniques to enhance efforts in critical areas.
  6. Offering technical guidance for the electron microscopy department.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Ceramic Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 4+ years of experience in Materials Engineering or Metallurgy.
  • Proven ability to conduct investigations independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations as necessary.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Ceramic Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-temperature or lightweight alloy metallurgy.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with optical microscopy and metallographic preparation techniques.
  • Proficiency in electron optics operation and analysis techniques, including backscatter and secondary imaging, EDS, EBSD, and WDS.
  • 1+ years of experience with investment casting, forging, or related processes.
