Job Summary:

This is a polished and professional role that requires excellent communication skills and a caring and compassionate approach to put patients at ease.

The successful candidate will coordinate all patient referrals at the request of providers, clinics, and other relevant parties. They will schedule and notify patients of appointments, provide necessary instructions, and enter referrals into the EHS system. Additionally, they will track and record reports as they are received.

The Referral Coordinator will work closely with assigned doctors and staff to refer patients to appropriate services in a timely manner, ensuring quality patient care. They must be able to read and write legibly, utilize a computer, and follow detailed written and verbal instructions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently coordinate and follow up on referrals for specialties or diagnostics.
  • Schedule all appointments accurately while coordinating with the patient and outside provider.
  • Communicate with patients and providers, providing all necessary information.
  • Maintain appropriate logs of all referrals and track and record reports into the EMR system as they are received.
  • Obtain consultation reports and provide them to the appropriate doctor.
  • Work in cooperation with outside agencies to help patients apply for alternate resources when appropriate.
  • Coordinate transportation to referral points or the clinic, as needed.
  • Attend meetings with physicians and staff as necessary and assist in educating clinic staff regarding the referral process.
  • File referral authorizations as necessary and copy and fax referrals authorizations.
  • Exhibit the ability to manage time well and work under stressful conditions with an even temperament.
  • Display ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Clock in and out every day and clock in and out for lunch when appropriate.
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills, including word processing, and a basic knowledge of office procedures and business machines.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceuticals preferred. Knowledge and experience with an EMR (electronic medical record) is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to address sensitive issues in a confidential manner and adhere to the confidentiality policy.
  • Working knowledge of the medical referral process and procedures, along with a minimum of two years of related clinical experience.
