The Virginia Department of Human Resource Management is seeking a skilled Correctional Nursing Professional to join their team at Wallens Ridge State Prison. As an LPN, you will be responsible for providing evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
You will screen for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed. Maintaining open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan is also essential.
With the ability to work hours, days, and locations as assigned, you must be capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period, regardless of the hire date. The estimated annual salary for this role is $42,000-$54,000, based on 29 hours per week over 52 weeks, considering the location in Wise, Virginia.
To be successful in this role, you must possess a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license. You should have a graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing and demonstrate the ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
A strong background in principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care, along with experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment, would be beneficial. Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
