We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Public Health Specialist. This role will be responsible for providing specialized public health services in the home and community, including directly observed therapy (DOT) and directly observed preventive therapy (DOPT) for patients diagnosed with Tuberculosis (TB).
Key Responsibilities- Provide DOT and DOPT services to patients with suspected or active TB disease or latent TB infection, including observing ingestion of medications, reviewing potential side effects, and documenting patient progress.
- Assess clients for medication toxicity and provide individualized care according to policies, procedures, program standards, and physician orders.
- Collaborate with regional public health nurse case managers to ensure treatment guidelines are met and patient records are maintained accurately.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of patient records to ensure adherence to standing delegation orders, timeframes, and treatment protocols.
- Support surveillance and contact investigation activities, including processing incoming reports, creating data tracking systems, and maintaining regional and state electronic databases.
- Provide education to patients, suspects, and contacts about tuberculosis transmission, infection vs. disease, and treatment process.
- Conduct contact investigations and assess investigation results to determine the need to expand the contact investigation.
- Provide logistical support with general office duties, including processing mail, inventory of supplies, and tracking program expenditures.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field.
- Valid and current AHA-approved Healthcare Provider (BLS)Adult, Child, Infant CPR/AED certification.
- Ability to independently drive and travel throughout the State of Texas and out-of-state to complete essential job functions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to provide patient medical care, prepare and maintain records, and communicate effectively.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple caseloads. The successful candidate will be able to maintain effective working relationships with the public and medical community using tact and diplomacy.
