Job Summary:

This role oversees the work of assigned maintenance team employees, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate will have experience in highway maintenance and be able to effectively communicate with the team and clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the work of assigned maintenance team employees, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Address minor discipline issues with team members, referring more serious cases to management for resolution.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of onboarding for new maintenance team members, providing a seamless transition into the team.
  • Collaborate with clients and customers to provide polite, quality professional service, promoting strong relationships and customer satisfaction.
  • Display a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail, and commitment, ensuring same from the maintenance team.
  • Communicate clearly with the team about goals and deadlines, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to team members as needed, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Clean and grade ditches, drainage structures, highway road shoulders, slopes, and perform repair work, including but not limited to, fence repair, sign repair, litter debris removal, and other highway maintenance activities.
  • Operate various mechanical equipment safely, including bed edgers, commercial mowers (ZTRs and possible bush hogs), blowers, dump trailers, chain saws, and line trimmers.
  • Maintain equipment in good working condition, notifying management of needed repairs to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the success of the maintenance team.
Requirements:
  • 18+ years of age
  • Some working knowledge of roadway or highway operations and build/maintenance practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate with managers and coworkers in English
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
  • Reliable transportation to and from Company office
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, daily activities, and meet timelines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to identify issues and determine repairs that are needed
  • Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to work along local roadways, interstates, and highways with commuter traffic passing by at varying rates of speed
  • Ability to adhere to on-call rotation scheduling requirements
  • Obtain MOT certificate (coursework and certification paid for by Versar)
  • Successful results of pre-employment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen
  • Comply with Company Drug and Alcohol policy
  • Must be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate's start date
