Position Overview

Role Summary (CMA): Responsible for executing routine clinical and administrative tasks to support the designated medical area or office.

Role Summary (PSR): A pivotal position within the medical office, managing front office operations in the physician's practice.

About Frye Regional Medical Center: Nestled in the scenic foothills of North Carolina, Frye Regional Medical Center is a 355-bed acute care facility complemented by an 81-bed Behavioral Health unit and over 70 primary and specialty care providers.

Key Responsibilities (CMA)
  • Assist in evaluating patient needs and health plans by recording vital signs, medical history, medication lists, assessing visual acuity, and identifying primary complaints. Evaluate both physical and mental health status of patients.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is accurately recorded in the patient's medical record in line with the practice's charting standards.
  • Prepare medical equipment and assist physicians during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Administer prescribed oral medications and perform intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections. Conduct venipunctures and both CLIA-Waived and non-CLIA Waived laboratory tests.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients and visitors, including the cleaning, sterilization, and proper storage of instruments as per practice policies. Manage inventory of medical and examination room supplies.
  • Adhere to established personal protective equipment protocols to safeguard against exposure to blood, infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous materials.
  • Coordinate specialized consultations and appointments for tests as directed by physicians. Inform insurance personnel for pre-certification of surgeries or tests as required.
  • Handle incoming office calls, assist front desk staff with appointment scheduling, and direct calls appropriately.
  • Support patient check-out processes and assist with referral management and scheduling.
  • Contribute to various functions within the physician's practice as necessary.
Key Responsibilities (PSR)
  • Welcome patients as they arrive at the physician's office.
  • Manage incoming calls, schedule appointments, confirm existing appointments, and reschedule as needed.
  • Check in patients, collect accurate demographic information, enter data into the electronic system, and verify insurance details.
  • Assist with patient check-out and support referral management and scheduling processes.
  • Collect co-payments and accurately post charges.
  • Process charge entries and manage patient balance inquiries.
  • Provide patients with information regarding office policies, procedures, and practice details.
  • Guide and enroll patients in the patient portal.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education (CMA):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.

Minimum Education (PSR):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferred completion of a medical office assistant program.

Licenses/Certifications (CMA):

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program is mandatory.
  • Current certification/registration is required, maintaining credentials with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA-CMA), NRCMA, or American Medical Technologists (AMT-RMA).
