Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented School Crossing Guard to join our team at the City of Clearwater, FL. As a School Crossing Guard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of children crossing streets during school hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and regulate the flow of traffic during school hours to ensure the safe crossing of children.
  • Supervise and oversee the crossing of streets during peak hours when children are going to and returning from school.
  • Ensure the safety of children who must cross hazardous streets by using stop sign equipment and directing the crossing of streets during heavily trafficked hours.
  • Set up warning and traffic control signs in designated school zone areas and place them safely and effectively.
  • Assist and support in school safety programs, such as bicycle inspections.
  • May be assigned special duties during parades and other special events.
  • Attend and participate in various meetings to ensure all activities are done effectively and in accordance with policies, procedures, and ordinances.
  • Dependability in attendance for outdoor work regardless of weather conditions.
Requirements
  • A valid State driver's license is required.
  • Employees selected for this position must meet FDLE guidelines in order to access sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Applicants with arrest histories for felonies or serious misdemeanors may be denied access to this information and as such, will not meet the minimum qualifications for a position with the City of Clearwater.
  • Must have minimum Tenth Grade Education; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
