Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Technician to join our team as a Lead Pharmacy Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for mentoring, training, and scheduling the work of Pharmacy Technicians, as well as performing various tasks related to pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and train Pharmacy Technicians to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Formulate department schedules and staffing vacancies to ensure adequate coverage and efficient operations.
  • Provide input to manager for performance evaluations of Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Assure documentation of quality assurance activities are completed for department performance metrics.
  • Perform audits to ensure department policy and procedure are being followed.
  • Maintain pharmacy system databases and ensure accurate and timely data entry.
  • Select prescribed medications according to dosage and strength indicated on patient medication file or cart-fill list.
  • Receive and inventory merchandise, and maintain accurate records.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas and inspect emergency medication trays.
  • Pack and label unit dose oral liquids/tablets, and maintain pre-pack records.
  • Collect and load drugs into an automated drug dispensing system (PYXIS).
  • Maintain inventory for non-automated patient care areas and respond to requests for medications from nursing personnel and other departments.
  • Follow processes to ensure all medications are compliant to technology safety checks.
  • Prepare sterile products in an accurate and aseptic manner when appropriate.
  • Attend to customers as a liaison and gather a medication history if applicable.
  • Properly manage pharmaceutical waste and credit patients for returned medications using the computer system.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Current Pharmacy Tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required.
  • ACPE I.V Certification with completion of 40-hour course in I.V. admixture preferred.
  • Sterile Products Certification through accredited program is required if incumbent compounds sterile products.
  • Five (5) years of pharmacy experience required. At least five (5) years of hospital experience preferred with established leadership and accountability qualities indicative of department leadership role.
  • Must have knowledge of medical terminology, self-motivation, and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve independently and proficiency in a minimum of six (6) skills from List I, II or III or a minimum of one (1) skill from list III and is currently performing as the primary role of the job.
