Position Overview:
The Powder Coating Technician plays a crucial role in our manufacturing operations. This position involves executing multiple tasks related to the powder coating process for metal components. Responsibilities include operating the powder coating equipment to ensure a uniform and consistent application of powder. The technician will be accountable for maintaining quality standards and optimizing production efficiency. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with potential overtime on Fridays based on production demands. Compensation ranges from $20 to $22 per hour, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule, and oversee the production cycle in accordance with company standards.
- Act as a technical resource for departmental processes.
- Coordinate the efficient flow of products to meet production targets.
- Uphold quality standards throughout the department.
- Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness and performance.
- Ensure the safety of personnel and adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Assist supervisors in promoting a positive work environment and strong work ethics.
- Support and implement company policies and procedures.
- Prepare parts for powder coating by cleaning the paint booth daily, selecting colors based on production orders, and organizing materials.
- Perform routine maintenance on powder coating equipment.
- Operate machinery following specific operational and safety guidelines.
- Apply powder to parts using appropriate techniques to achieve consistent thickness.
- Communicate any equipment issues to maintenance and report quality or production concerns to supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to work with decimals and percentages.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Capability to work independently.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Familiarity with common materials used in the industry.
- Experience with manual and powered hand tools, and color differentiation.
- General knowledge of routine procedures, including loading and unloading parts, conducting inspections, and using inspection tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Continuous mental and visual attention is essential.
- Requires constant alertness and attention to detail regarding product quality and quantity.
- Work may involve irregular schedules to meet customer demands.
- Physical tasks include lifting, pulling, pushing, standing, stooping, and bending for extended periods.
- Work environment may be hot, cold, noisy, and expose employees to odors, fumes, and dust.
- Must be able to lift and exert force on parts weighing between 0-75 lbs.
- Personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes, earplugs, and safety glasses, is mandatory on the production floor.
Education & Experience:
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- At least one year of relevant experience is preferred.
