Position Summary

This role is situated within the Plant department, encompassing positions that oversee or execute metals processing and distribution tasks. Responsibilities include operating specialized machinery and supporting functions, necessitating a solid understanding of the processes, materials, and methods utilized by Phoenix Metals in the realm of metal processing and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute fundamental production tasks on various laser machinery.
  • Analyze blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions, or other specifications to grasp the machining characteristics of different metals.
  • Select appropriate materials for tasks based on work orders.
  • Prepare laser cutting equipment for safe operation by choosing suitable nozzles and adjusting speeds and feeds.
  • Establish processing specifications including materials, forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects, dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
  • Position workpieces for processing, potentially operating a combination of machines.
  • Operate laser machines as needed, based on workload or business requirements.
  • Adjust controls to set cutting speeds, depths, and feed rates.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and squares to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct quality control inspections on finished products; for ISO-certified locations, perform In Process Quality Inspections.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness according to established maintenance protocols.
  • Identify issues and make necessary adjustments, including removing scrap from machinery.
  • Coordinate and manage material handling tasks.
  • Complete work order documentation accurately.
  • Restock materials as needed.
  • May label materials/workpieces prior to processing.
  • May label materials post-processing and organize them for further processing or shipping.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • 0-5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • High School diploma/GED preferred.
  • Experience in warehousing and material handling is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with setting up, operating, and troubleshooting metalworking machinery is preferred.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and coordination are required.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions relevant to work tasks is essential.
  • Basic measurement skills for length, width, height, and weight are necessary for performing basic math computations.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for calculating and converting decimals and fractions are required.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with software applications are necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and utilize time efficiently is required.
  • Sound decision-making skills based on knowledge, experience, and judgment are essential.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors and colleagues is required.

Physical Requirements

Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work Environment

Warehouse/Field setting; minimal temperature variation.
