Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to join our team in Butte, MT or other Montana locations. As a Hydro Generation Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting engineering tasks in support of our Dam Safety Program for eleven hydro projects in Montana. This includes working closely with our Engineering Team to conduct detailed dam structure inspections, collect and evaluate dam instrumentation and monitoring data, and prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct engineering tasks in support of our Dam Safety Program
  • Work closely with our Engineering Team to conduct detailed dam structure inspections
  • Collect and evaluate dam instrumentation and monitoring data
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results
  • Interact and coordinate with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC's) Portland Regional Office and D2SI (Washington, DC FERC dam safety) office in matters related to dam safety, public safety, and project operations
  • Perform the role of NorthWestern Energy's Emergency Action Plan Coordinator, managing the NorthWestern Energy's Emergency Action Plan (EAP) program for each of the eleven dams
Requirements:
  • BS in engineering required, preferably in Civil or Geotechnical
  • MS in engineering a plus
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, communicating clearly with others both in writing and orally
  • Ability to organize and conduct large meetings
  • Basic understanding of dam structural and hydraulic fundamentals
  • Solid understanding of spreadsheet, graphing, and statistical analysis
  • Organized and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Positive, self-motivated attitude and ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent computer, communication, and technical writing skills
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
  • Pass physical test to access all areas of the hydro plants, including climbing ladders, confined and cramped wet slippery quarters and traveling rough terrain
