Waymo's Supply Chain and Manufacturing teams are at the forefront of transforming future technology into reality. We oversee all aspects of production processes and supplier development strategies, encompassing contracts, procurement, design enhancements for manufacturing, quality assurance, and timely delivery. Our teams actively collaborate with Waymo engineering departments and external suppliers to ensure that all products are manufactured to specifications and delivered punctually to meet our growing business demands.

In this hybrid position, you will report to a Manufacturing Design and Supplier Development Manager.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assess potential suppliers based on their manufacturing and quality capabilities aligned with project requirements.
  • Conduct reviews of 3D models and 2D drawings with Engineering and suppliers to evaluate Design for Manufacturability, collaborating with Design Engineering to finalize viable component designs.
  • Identify the equipment, fixtures, and tooling requirements of suppliers, leading the implementation schedules and efforts to qualify and enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor the progress of development activities at supplier sites and act as the escalation point for manufacturing processes that do not meet design specifications.
  • Drive OK2X (OK2Tool, OK2Build, OK2Ship) deliverables during new product introduction phases, providing on-site support as necessary to ensure supplier readiness in manufacturing processes and quality controls prior to each build.
  • Collaborate with Global Supply Managers to evaluate supplier preparedness for build events and production ramp-up, identifying potential execution challenges and offering risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and implement Quality Control Plans and establish Production Part Approval Processes (PPAPs).
  • Investigate, rectify, and monitor ongoing improvements of product quality issues at suppliers and those encountered in downstream manufacturing to promptly address quality concerns.
Your Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering and/or Supplier Quality Engineering within the consumer electronics or automotive/transportation sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Thorough understanding of high/low volume manufacturing processes for vehicle components, including fascias, cosmetic covers, painting, and structural components made from plastic, stamped, or cast materials.
  • Experience with diverse component manufacturing techniques such as plastic injection molding, metal casting, metal stamping and forming, CNC machining, weldments, and light manual assembly.
  • Proficient in the 7D process: problem definition, containment, root cause analysis for occurrence/escape, and corrective/preventive action planning and execution.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 20%-40% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with IATF Core Tools (APQP/PPAP/FMEA/MSA/SPC).
  • Experience in Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret design drawings/GD&T, schematics, and cosmetic standards for inspection criteria.
  • Experience collaborating with component manufacturers and suppliers across multiple continents.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.
