General Summary:
The role involves assisting licensed pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications to patients and various departments within the healthcare facility. Responsibilities include managing medication inventory, processing charges, and maintaining accurate patient records. This position requires advanced training in controlled substances, intravenous (IV) preparations, and the handling of cytotoxic medications.
Pharmacy technicians operate under the supervision of registered pharmacists and are not authorized to perform tasks that are legally reserved for licensed pharmacists.
The role emphasizes efforts to enhance patient satisfaction, reduce costs, and improve overall quality of care. This position supports the mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.Minimum Licensure & Certification Required:
- National pharmacy technician certification or active enrollment in an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program (successful completion of the foreign pharmacy graduate examination is considered equivalent).
- Registration with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy.
Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a math/pharmaceutical calculation assessment.
- Preferred experience of at least one (1) year in IV admixture and chemotherapy.
- Effective communication skills, with proficiency in speaking, writing, and understanding English.
- Able to collaborate effectively with hospital and pharmacy personnel to achieve objectives.
- Capable of managing frequent interruptions and adapting to changes in workload and scheduling.
