Job Overview

Position Summary
Claflin University is in search of a Cyberinfrastructure Specialist who will act as a key intermediary between the Information Technology department and researchers. This role is essential in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to pinpoint resources, disseminate information, and explore available research methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

The Cyberinfrastructure Specialist will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Information Technology. The primary focus will be to enhance awareness and utilization of cyberinfrastructure among faculty, staff, and students, thereby facilitating their computing and data-driven educational and research endeavors.

Specific duties include:

  • Assessing, articulating, and addressing technological requirements and solutions.
  • Identifying and aiding in the creation of innovative solutions.
  • Promoting and developing training initiatives related to cyberinfrastructure for the university community.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary within the role's scope.


Qualifications

A Master's degree is preferred, along with a minimum of one year of demonstrable experience in managing and supporting a substantial network infrastructure, primarily utilizing Windows/Linux Server products, PerfSONAR, Data Transfer Nodes, Computational Clusters, SLURM Scheduler, and other components of the cyberinfrastructure ecosystem.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in leveraging technology for educational or research purposes and demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting educators and researchers in their technological endeavors.

Proficiency in using Linux or Unix shell (command-line), along with the ability to install and run programs in a Linux environment, is essential. Familiarity with one or more scientific programming languages, such as C++, Python, Fortran, or R, is also required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are crucial, particularly the ability to explain complex or technical concepts to non-specialists.
