Position Overview:
The Financial Controller plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting department while also being a key contributor to the leadership team. This position is vital in aligning the company's strategic goals with effective financial management and insightful analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and nurture talent to meet current and future business demands. Foster a collaborative team environment, guiding the team to pinpoint projects and establish achievable milestones. Cultivate a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Manage all facets of accounting and control operations, ensuring high efficiency and effectiveness. Regularly review controls to address any deficiencies.
- Optimize returns and mitigate risks associated with investments. Drive initiatives for cash optimization.
- Collaborate with business partners to create monthly forecasts and annual budgets, setting ambitious yet attainable financial objectives.
- Lead cross-functional teams to establish inventory targets and optimize cash flow. Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and enhance net working capital decisions.
- Guide teams in understanding and managing manufacturing variances; identify cost improvement opportunities and collaborate with Engineering on new product costing.
- Achieve budgetary goals by establishing, monitoring, and analyzing critical business and manufacturing KPIs. Provide analytical insights to highlight business risks and opportunities.
- Keep management informed with timely updates on the financial status of business units and progress on various initiatives, analyzing trends and identifying areas for improvement.
- Oversee the month-end closing process, including the preparation and review of adjusting journal entries related to inventory.
- Lead the development of ERP and accounting processes to support product line profit and loss statements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within accounting and collaborate with general management on manufacturing enhancements.
- Act as a strategic leader and problem solver, balancing long-term objectives with immediate needs.
- Guide teams in implementing necessary changes in personnel and technology, striving for the most effective solutions to support operational strategies.
- Direct all aspects of standard costing and initiatives aimed at improving manufacturing performance, utilizing data to achieve operational excellence.
- Assist business partners in preparing capital request processes and provide analytical support to communicate project return on investment.
- Support the business in vertical integration or insourcing efforts.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Steer financial decision-making by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing relevant policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance is required, with a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, demonstrating a track record of success.
Skills:
- Prior experience in a standard cost manufacturing environment.
- Expertise in standard cost accounting is essential, along with experience in lot traceability and complex bill of materials.
- Experience managing product line profit and loss statements.
- Proficiency with complex ERP systems and reporting tools is required, with knowledge of ERP systems beyond the accounting module being essential. Familiarity with financial reporting tools such as Hyperion Essbase, SAP BPC, or IBM Planning and Analytics is desirable.
- Experience in full-scope ERP implementation for manufacturing companies is highly preferred.
- A proven track record in building and leading high-performing teams and fostering a winning culture, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within accounting or finance.
- Business acumen and strategic thinking.
- Adept at managing details while maintaining a broad perspective. Strong problem-solving and results-oriented mindset.
