MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.

Graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program with an Associate's degree in science or applied science recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association, Inc.

2. Current Certification or License as mandated by State Law.
3. Demonstrates proficiency in communication skills suitable for interacting with various age groups, particularly the elderly population.
4. Exhibits capability to supervise and guide professional staff.
5. Self-motivated with exceptional observational and communication abilities.
6. Capable of engaging tactfully with the community.
7.

Must possess a valid driver's license and have an insured vehicle that meets state and/or Agency requirements and is in good operational condition.


SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

A physical therapy assistant delivers services as planned, assigned, and overseen by the physical therapist; aids in preparing clinical documentation and progress summaries; and contributes to educating patients and their families, as well as participating in in-service training programs.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1.

Executes physical therapy services in alignment with the treatment plan established by the Physical Therapist and endorsed by the physician, under the guidance and supervision of the PT.

2.

Assists the PT in administering treatment to alleviate pain, enhance or restore functionality, and sustain optimal performance through appropriate physical therapy techniques, modalities, and procedures as outlined in the care plan.

3.

Supports the physician and PT in evaluating the client's functional status by conducting relevant assessments and in the formulation and modification (as needed) of the care plan.

4.

Engages in instructing clients, families, and other healthcare team members in exercise programs developed by the PT for strengthening and controlling lower extremities.

5.

Employs physical modalities, including but not limited to heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, and massage as directed and supervised by the PT.

6.

Observes, documents, and communicates to the physical therapist and/or the Agency's Branch Supervisor and RN Case Manager the patient's/client's responses to treatment and any alterations in their condition. Documentation must reflect effective communication.

7.

Guides patients/clients in the care and operation of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices under the direction and supervision of the PT.

8. Develops, prepares, and maintains accurate and timely individualized client care progress records in accordance with policies. Submits precise documentation.
9. Collaborates with Agency personnel in care coordination activities consistently.

Assists the PT in coordinating the comprehensive care plan and ensuring continuity of client care by liaising with other health professionals.

Participates in organizing services for the patient/client.

Initiates coordination of services for complex and/or multidisciplinary clients whenever necessary to ensure effective care coordination.

10. Works with the PT and relevant staff to provide educational opportunities for staff when requested and arranged by the Branch Supervisor.
11. Responsible for adhering to all Agency policies and procedures regarding service delivery, documentation, and care coordination.
12. Expected to stay updated on therapy trends and knowledge. Participates in in-service training programs.
13. Engages in the Agency's Quality Improvement program. Can articulate personal responsibilities and activities.

2. Potential exposure to infectious diseases,
3. In and out of a vehicle.
4. This position is classified as Class I Field clinical staff (refer to Infection/Exposure Control Plan).

Employees in Class I Field clinical staff roles may encounter potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.

All Class I Field clinical staff employees will be offered Hepatitis B vaccination at no cost to the employee.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Sufficient visual/hearing ability to comprehend written/verbal communication.
2. Capability to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include heavy lifting/moving and extensive bending and standing.
3. Ability to manage stress effectively.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Must fulfill the required continuing education hours for state licensure as applicable.

Agency personnel are expected to engage in relevant continuing education as may be requested and/or mandated by their immediate supervisor.

Additionally, agency personnel are expected to take personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and competencies.

All agency personnel must attend mandatory educational programs.
