Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Physician to join our team of healthcare professionals at the US Department of Health and Human Services. As a Pediatric Physician, you will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to patients in hospitals and clinics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat, prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patient's condition.
  • Monitor patient's conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
Requirements
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
  • Board Certification in the physician's specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) is a condition of employment.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments in high-pressure situations. The selected individual must be able to work effectively in a team environment and communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

The selected individual will be required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

The selected individual will be required to pass a pre-employment examination and may be subject to a probationary period. U.S. Citizenship is required, and Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Measles and Rubella immunization is required for selectees born after 1957, and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
