Overview of the Structural Fitter Role:

Are you adept at transforming blueprints into reality? As a Fitter, you will play a crucial role in crafting precise components according to shop drawings and industry standards. Your responsibilities will include carefully laying out and assembling fabricated parts, ensuring compliance with the specifications set forth by AISC and AWS. Safety is of utmost importance in this role, as any oversight in executing essential tasks could endanger our team and the broader community. Compensation for Structural Fitters:
  • $17-$28/hr
  • Weekly Pay
Key Responsibilities of a Structural Fitter:
  • Responsible for the layout and assembly of fabricated components in accordance with shop drawings using AISC and AWS standards.
  • Positions, aligns, and fits together fabricated parts of structural metal products in the workshop, following blueprint and layout specifications in preparation for welding or riveting.
  • Identifies and marks centerlines and reference points onto the floor or face block and transposes them to the workpiece.
  • Moves components into position, either manually or with a hoist/overhead crane. Aligns parts and prepares them for final assembly.
  • Complies with all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work overtime and maintain regular, punctual attendance is required.
  • Performs additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications for Structural Fitters:
  • High School diploma or equivalent, with a certificate from a Vocational-Technical or Trade school in mechanics.
  • Proficient in fitting various structural steel components, including beams, columns, braces, and simple frames.
  • Must be capable of passing a Class B welding test, which may include 1G FCAW, 3G FCAW, 4G FCAW, 1G SMAW, 3G SMAW, 4G SMAW, and 1G SAW.
  • Strong mathematical skills are essential.
  • Ability to successfully complete a tape measure test is required.
Physical Demands of the Structural Fitter Role:
  • Must be able to lift over 50 pounds frequently.
  • Requires significant bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and bending.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures and a noisy work environment.
  • Considerable amounts of overtime and weekend work may be necessary.
  • All physical demands listed are essential functions of the role.
