Job Title: Custodian Inmate Crew Leader

Job Summary:

The Custodian Inmate Crew Leader is responsible for supervising inmates in performing various duties to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of facilities, excluding dorms. Key responsibilities include maintenance tasks, cleaning surfaces, bathrooms, trash removal, sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing tile surface floors, as well as vacuuming carpet.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise inmates in performing cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain inventory and provide work tracking reports as required.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained for all supplies provided.
  • Instruct and guide inmates on the safe use, care, and proper return of equipment and tools.
  • Perform and oversee proper cleaning and sanitation processes to meet custodial and maintenance needs.
  • Comply with safety programs to ensure equipment and tools are used safely.
  • Prioritize maintenance requests based on urgency, safety concerns, available resources, and other pertinent criteria.
  • Successfully complete all assignments to specifications, within specified timeframes, and budgets.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Florida driver's license required.
  • Medical screening required prior to appointment.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to take criticism and verbal abuse from inmates and their visitors without reacting negatively.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations, make effective decisions, and use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Knowledge of facility layout, including location of sally port controls, cell locks, control panels, secure perimeters, and emergency and safety equipment.
  • Knowledge of contraband recognition and search procedures.
