Paraprofessional Assistant

Gwinnett County Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Paraprofessional Assistant to join our team. As a Paraprofessional Assistant, you will provide critical support to our instructional program, working closely with teachers and students to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.

• Assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in the regular education classroom, special education classroom, and community.
• Implement plans for instruction, monitor student behavior during non-classroom time, and provide information to appropriate school personnel.
• Attend Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings and adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
• Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional.
• Assist students with disabilities with grooming, community accessibility, and other appropriate areas as assigned by teacher.
• Confer with teachers on a regular basis to assist in evaluating special education student progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
• Implement and collect data under the supervision of assigned teacher and behavioral plans designed by IEP teams.
• Monitor special education students in various settings, including the classroom, field trips, and community skills.
• Perform record keeping and support functions, including data collection, student files, and attendance.
• Provide instruction to students in individual and group activities, reinforcing instructional objectives and implementing IEP plans.
• Respond to emergency situations, including physical de-escalation procedures, and provide effective crisis intervention.
• Assist with monitoring duties, including hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and bus duty, ensuring appropriate student conduct.

• Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) required.
• High school diploma or equivalent and passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment (prior to March 1, 2007) or the GACE Parapro Assessment required.
• Experience in a licensed child care environment preferred.
• Knowledge of child development, Microsoft Office Suite, and effective interpersonal skills required.

The job requires frequent sitting, talking, hearing, standing, and walking. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, have significant finger dexterity, and/or reach. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
