Civil Engineer Job Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to join our Vancouver, WA office. As a key member of our multi-discipline team, you will be responsible for developing efficient and reliable designs of Substation and Transmission Facilities in accordance with industry codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform civil design of projects from conceptual phase to design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for various projects, including power plants, process facilities, and industrial facilities.
  • Design civil components for project needs and requirements.
  • Apply strong knowledge of civil engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
  • Research and compile project-related data, compile studies and reports, and write specifications.
  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections.
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
  • 3 years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, and BIM software.
Compensation and Benefits:

The expected compensation range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000. Our extensive benefits package includes insurance, disability, time off, and wellness programs. Eligible employees participate in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and 401(k) retirement program.
