The Community Living Instructor/Mental Health Care Assistant plays a vital role in assisting the Wellness Team with activities and group sessions for residents in our Clustered Apartment program. This position is essential in providing a range of services aimed at enhancing rehabilitation across five program components: Living Skills, Self-Care Skills, Social Skills, Leisure Skills, and Work Skills. To excel in this position, you must be comfortable working closely with individuals facing chronic mental health challenges and possess a strong desire to deliver exceptional client care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure a safe and secure environment conducive to therapeutic growth for clients through diligent oversight of the program and facility grounds.
- Facilitate individual and group activities that help clients develop behaviors and skills necessary for reintegration into age-appropriate activities based on their unique needs and abilities.
- Implement DMH-approved curricula focused on skill-building and knowledge regarding mental illness management to support clients in maintaining community living.
- Utilize a curriculum centered around five core components, incorporating training, coaching, and support in daily living skills, mood management, relationship boundaries, medication education, symptom recognition and reduction, health and wellness, anger management, problem-solving, goal setting, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
- Provide consistent, meaningful individual and group activities tailored to the skill and cognitive levels of clients, ensuring engagement and interest.
- Assist clients in accessing necessary mental health services, including accompanying them to appointments for medical or other health-related needs.
- Support clients in navigating various public services, including financial and housing assistance, with a focus on emergency needs for food, shelter, and clothing.
- Help clients connect with and utilize community agencies and resources for ongoing social, educational, vocational, and recreational support and activities.
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Preferred: At least two (2) years of experience in a mental health-related field.
- A valid driver's license at the time of hire, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Class E MO driver's license by the end of the 60-day introductory period is required.
