Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Sterilization Technician to join our team at Northern Maine Medical Center. As a Sterilization Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care by processing and sterilizing medical instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instrument Processing: Responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, wrapping, and sterilizing instruments and bundles for all patient care areas.
  • Quality Control: Monitor biological and chemical wash solutions, perform quality control checks, and maintain equipment to ensure consistent safety and effectiveness.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain equipment inventory of all supplies needed to run the department and perform all sterilization processes for instrumentation used throughout the organization.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with Infection Control to ensure maximum sterility and maintain a collaborative relationship with the team.
Requirements
  • Education and Training: Fulfills staff development and annual competency requirements, with a working knowledge of The Joint Commission standards for Sterile Processing and International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) best practice recommendations.
  • Certification: Must complete educational program for sterilization certification within 1 year of employment and certification in approved sterile processing accrediting body such as International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) after 1 year of working in the department.
  • Work Traits: Demonstrates customer satisfaction and basic customer focus requirements, follows NMMC Code of conduct, and customer interaction standards, and works as a productive team member and independently.
Work Environment

This role requires manual dexterity, physical demands, and working conditions, including standing and walking most of the day, lifting and pushing patients, carts, stretchers, and wheelchairs, and near visual acuity for accurate reading of gauges and thermometers.
