Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator II

Position Summary - Reporting to the Chief Plant Operator, the Grade II Operator is tasked with the effective management and upkeep of the wastewater treatment facility, while also providing support for other PERC Water initiatives as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, inspect, clean, repair, replace, and maintain all associated equipment including piping, valves, motors, pumps, aerators, and filtration systems; assist with significant repair tasks as needed.
- Conduct routine inspections and monitoring of plant operations by reviewing equipment gauges, computer displays, and other instrumentation; make necessary adjustments to process controls as directed; identify and rectify operational issues; ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Perform general maintenance and repair tasks around the facility, including equipment lubrication and landscape maintenance.
- Alert the Chief Plant Operator regarding low inventory levels of essential supplies.
- Utilize various tools and equipment to maintain the wastewater treatment system.
- Operate and maintain irrigation systems for effluent disposal.
- Conduct basic laboratory testing and analysis for water pollution control; collect samples and adhere to quality assurance protocols; maintain accurate records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist with equipment maintenance under supervision.
- Carry out cleaning tasks within the facility.
- Engage in a variety of maintenance activities such as carpentry, painting, and electrical work to ensure project completion within set timelines.
- Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems as necessary.
- Communicate any issues to the Chief Plant Operator.
- Support skilled maintenance personnel and subcontractors with project tasks.
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure they are in safe working condition.
- Respond to emergency situations as required to address immediate safety concerns.
- Adhere to all site-specific regulations and corporate safety programs.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Chief Plant Operator.
- Maintain acceptable attendance as per company standards.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in general computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; ability to learn the site-specific CMMS program.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues and establish productive working relationships.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
- Must be capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 40 pounds regularly.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces.
- Willingness to work weekends, nights, or holidays as necessary.
- Availability for on-call duties as scheduled.
- Occasional travel between job sites may be required.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current California Grade II Wastewater Certification is mandatory.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Valid California driver's license is required.
- A degree in a related field is advantageous but not essential.
Work Environment
The position involves working in both indoor and outdoor settings at a wastewater reclamation facility.
