Exciting Opportunity for a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Pediatric Nephrologist

Nicklaus Children's Hospital, a leading 307-bed pediatric facility and verified Level 1 pediatric trauma center, is seeking a dedicated BC/BE pediatric nephrologist to enhance our clinical team. This role emphasizes outstanding patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, addressing a wide range of nephrology conditions including Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), and End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD). The ideal candidate will be passionate about advocating for children's health and committed to providing an environment where every child is prioritized.

The Nephrology Section currently comprises three full-time pediatric nephrologists and one nurse practitioner, with plans for future expansion to meet the growing needs of our community in South Florida. Our division collaborates closely with other specialized departments such as pediatric urology, rheumatology, and neurology, as well as participating in multidisciplinary clinics.

In the past year, our Section of Nephrology has managed over 7,000 patient interactions, with our Pediatric Dialysis Unit providing more than 2,000 outpatient treatments and over 700 inpatient treatments. Nicklaus Children's Health System serves the South Florida region and is affiliated with a prominent medical college, supported by a robust network of pediatric residents and fellows across various specialties.

Position Overview

This role primarily involves clinical responsibilities related to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of pediatric patients within a collaborative environment that includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and social workers. The position provides exposure to a diverse range of pediatric cases, including both general and high-acuity patients. Opportunities for teaching and supervision of medical residents, as well as involvement in research and publishing, are integral to this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge of pediatric growth and development in patient interactions and treatment plans.
  • Engage in continuous self-education through professional development activities.
  • Coordinate and deliver educational sessions to meet the needs of staff and residents.
  • Manage follow-up on tests, lab results, and patient communications.
  • Provide direct clinical services, including comprehensive patient assessments, treatment planning, and patient education.
  • Contribute suggestions for departmental improvements to leadership.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives, research, and publication efforts.
  • Serve as a mentor and educator for medical students and residents.
  • Participate in the on-call schedule as required.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited institution.
  • Current medical license in good standing.
  • Active certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
