As a Special Education Instructor, your role will involve planning, preparing, and executing the instructional process for students with disabilities in the classroom. This includes, but is not limited to, delivering instruction, implementing curriculum materials and educational software, and developing daily lesson plans and classroom schedules that meet school requirements while addressing the physical, emotional, and educational needs of each learner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fostering a collaborative environment for students, parents, and administrative staff.
  • Creating a classroom atmosphere that encourages respect, fairness, and social development by modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors as outlined in the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.
  • Implementing established school-wide and classroom PBIS initiatives, reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequence guidelines.
  • Documenting student progress, maintaining student records, and preparing reports on student activities.
  • Providing direct subject-based instruction and collaborating with colleagues to co-teach curricular subjects.
  • Adapting curriculum and assisting with differentiated instruction tailored to student needs.
  • Utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and resources to cater to the diverse interests and needs of students, including prescribed educational software and intervention curricula.
  • Acting as a case manager for special education students.
  • Preparing daily lesson plans and instructional materials for assigned classes.
  • Reporting incidents to ensure student safety and compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Maintaining a tidy and organized classroom environment, including furniture and supplies.
  • Staying updated with research-based practices and developments in the field.
  • Responding positively to both formal and informal feedback.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field.
  • Experience in curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction within a classroom setting.
  • Proficient in working with students with diverse needs.
  • Experience in a special education program setting is preferred.
  • Experience with children on the autism spectrum and/or related disabilities is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and new initiatives.
  • Familiarity with relevant technology, including instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
