Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathology Assistant to join our team at Clover Park School District. As a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, you will work under the direction of a certified speech/language pathologist to conduct speech/language therapy activities with students. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct speech/language therapy programs and activities for students, singly or in small groups, to assist them in meeting objectives as directed by the speech/language pathologist.
  • Provide therapy support in the classroom as appropriate.
  • Communicate and relay information regarding students to the appropriate staff.
  • Travel between schools for therapy sessions, schedule time for direct therapy, plan travel times, and check in with building staff.
  • Assist with preparation for and implementation of programs for students, assemble materials needed for programs, prepare and update schedules.
  • Prepare speech/language therapy files, file district forms, complete paperwork under the direction of the speech/language pathologist.
  • Contact teachers, assistants, principals, and others for consultation under the direction of the speech language pathologist.
  • Contact parents as needed under the direction of the speech/language pathologist.
  • Record progress and attendance of students, update plans.
  • Attend departmental, building, and IEP meetings.
  • Serve as a team member in designated regular education/special education classrooms.
  • Construct materials for students, modify materials as necessary and as directed by the speech/language pathologist.
  • Ensure personal hygiene needs of students are attended to by assigned staff, occasionally required to lift and carry students.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree with an emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology Assistance, or a BS or BA in speech/language pathology with experience as a speech-language pathology assistant required.
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones and general children's development.
  • Experience in working with students with communication, learning, behavioral, and/or physical handicaps required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grammar and English usage.
  • Ability to articulate clearly.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to establish a positive rapport with students.
  • Ability to maintain program records and organize materials.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to schedule activities and attend to detail.
  • Ability to be creative, resourceful, and flexible.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow procedures established by state laws.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and parents.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural and diverse socio-economic setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with speech preferred.
  • Work experience with preschool, elementary, and secondary special needs students preferred.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in both a typical school setting and satellite sites. During the normal work day, employee may be required to travel to multiple sites throughout the district in all types of weather and maneuver traffic, steps, ramps, and uneven ground. Must have normal use of fingers, hands, and arms; ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; and tolerance of occasional loud noises.

Benefits

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and basic life insurance benefits. Clover Park School District benefits are administered by the Washington State Healthcare Authority under the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).
