Position Overview
Under supervision, engages in tasks related to the upkeep of Tulsa County Fleet vehicles by executing the following responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities
All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion, or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or requires a CDL.
External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.
Essential Duties- Assist in the examination, adjustment, and replacement of essential components and associated parts including valves, pistons, brakes, main bearing assemblies, and cooling, ignition, and fuel systems of gasoline-powered vehicles.
- Support the repair and refurbishment of transmissions, differentials, and front and rear-end assemblies, air compressors, hydraulic systems, and other related machinery.
- Contribute to the general repair and maintenance of gasoline-powered equipment and vehicles.
- Change tires, oil filters, and air filters as required.
- Monitor tire pressure, fluid levels, and windshield wipers.
- Clean both the interior and exterior of vehicles.
- Oversee and evaluate the work performed by external service providers.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, calling for additional assistance as necessary.
- Ensure safe working conditions; identify and rectify or report unsafe conditions in work areas.
- Participate in snow removal, sandbagging, and property cleaning activities.
- Complete and document all assigned work orders and related paperwork.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Proficiency in changing tires, oil, oil filters, and air filters; in checking fluid levels; and in cleaning both the interior and exterior of vehicles.
Knowledge of safety protocols associated with gasoline-powered equipment and vehicles; of automotive repair tools; and of automotive fluids.
Ability to operate automotive repair tools; to read and write; to comprehend and execute written and oral instructions; to drive a vehicle; and to perform basic mathematical calculations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and Automotive Diagnostic software.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and over three months of full-time paid experience in an automotive technician/mechanic role.
Language SkillsAbility to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations with customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
