Job Summary

A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a highly skilled advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who delivers high-quality, evidence-based anesthesia and pain care services in a variety of settings. The CRNA works collaboratively with healthcare providers to provide comprehensive care to patients at all acuity levels across the lifespan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-anesthesia assessments and evaluations of patients
  • Review and order laboratory/diagnostic studies as needed
  • Obtain informed consent for anesthesia and related services
  • Select and administer preanesthetic medication or treatment
  • Develop and implement anesthesia care plans
  • Select and use equipment, monitors, and supplies for anesthesia services
  • Select and administer analgesic and anesthetic agents
  • Perform airway management, including fiberoptic intubation
  • Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia
  • Initiate and administer post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support
  • Provide post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care
  • Discharge patients from the post-anesthesia care unit
  • Implement acute and chronic pain management modalities
  • Manage emergency situations, including airway management and administration of emergency drugs and fluids
  • Place and manage regional anesthetic techniques
Requirements
  • Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthetist Educational Programs
  • Current active state licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Texas
  • Current certification or recertification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
  • Active BLS, ACLS, and NRP certification
  • Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer
