Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the surgeon and surgical team during operations, ensuring a smooth workflow.
- Act as the primary scrub person, managing instruments, supplies, and equipment effectively.
- Prepare and maintain sterile surgical environments, ensuring all necessary items are organized and ready for use.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to discuss and plan procedures, confirming the availability of all required resources.
- Provide support and guidance to healthcare professionals throughout surgical interventions.
- Understand and implement safety protocols for disinfecting surgical instruments.
- Perform routine maintenance on surgical equipment to prevent operational issues.
- Identify and address potentially hazardous situations proactively.
- Monitor inventory levels of supplies and materials, ensuring adequate stock is maintained.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
Standard hours are Monday to Friday, with potential evening, weekend, and holiday on-call responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
This role requires physical stamina, including lifting and positioning patients, often those who are unconscious. The position involves prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching to ensure easy access to instruments and supplies. The Surgical Assistant must skillfully pass instruments to surgeons while adhering to aseptic techniques, minimizing effort required from the surgeon.
