POSITION SUMMARY: LANGUAGE ARTS INSTRUCTOR
GRADE LEVEL: 7-8

OVERVIEW:
This full-time role is dedicated to delivering a comprehensive educational experience for students in grades 7 and 8, while also contributing to various school initiatives as required.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Directly accountable to the Site Administrator or their designated representative.

SUPERVISION:
Oversees any assigned support staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Instructs students in the designated subject areas as determined by the Board of Trustees. In a departmentalized or collaborative teaching environment, may teach one or more subjects as assigned by the principal.
  2. Educates students on citizenship, fundamental communication skills, and other essential components of the curriculum as mandated by state laws and district regulations.
  3. Designs engaging learning experiences to inspire students and optimize instructional time.
  4. Creates lesson plans and instructional resources, providing tailored instruction to meet the diverse needs of each student.
  5. Transforms lesson plans into effective learning activities to maximize instructional time.
  6. Establishes and upholds standards of student behavior necessary for a productive learning environment.
  7. Collaborates in setting expectations for student progress and develops assessment techniques.
  8. Assesses students' academic and social development, maintains accurate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents regarding individual student progress.

9. Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professionals to address health, attitude, and learning challenges.

  1. Creates and sustains an inviting and functional classroom environment conducive to learning.
10. Fosters a positive self-image in students by cultivating a supportive and understanding learning atmosphere that promotes personal growth.

11. Maintains professional growth through participation in district-sponsored in-service training and other approved professional development activities.

12. Conducts attendance accounting as required.

13. Supervises students during out-of-classroom activities throughout the workday.

14. Administers standardized assessments in accordance with district protocols.

16. Engages in curriculum development and other initiatives at the school or district level.

17. Participates in faculty committees and assists in the organization of student activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (continued):

17. Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals as assigned.

18. Completes reports and surveys as requested by the school or district.

19. Engages in district-sponsored events, including but not limited to Back to School Night and Open House.

20. Performs additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands for various tasks, and reach with hands and arms. Frequent standing is required, with occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Proven success in fostering positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  2. Prior successful experience teaching at the middle school level.
