Position Overview:
The Geriatric Nursing Assistant is responsible for executing routine patient care tasks as outlined in the care plan and under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.

Key Responsibilities:
Safely assist in the transfer and transportation of residents.
Prepare residents for transport.
Uphold safety and confidentiality standards.
Resident AdvocacyAct as a champion for residents, addressing and escalating concerns as necessary.
Prepare participants for meals, serving and clearing food trays while assisting with dining.

Respond to Call BellsProvide personal care services, which may include oral hygiene, manicures, shaving, and hair care. Report observations regarding residents' behaviors and any changes to the nurse. Establish effective communication and build positive relationships with unit personnel, residents, families, other departments, visitors, and physicians.

Identify safety hazards for residents and take appropriate actions to maintain a clean and secure environment.
Assist in preparing for new admissions by setting up rooms, beds, and equipment in advance.
Support the transfer of patients to different rooms or units.
Accompany patients during discharge procedures.
Provide postmortem care in accordance with policy.
Basic Nursing CareIn collaboration with the preceptor and/or nurse, deliver fundamental nursing care to patients.

Provide morning and evening care, which may include bed baths, oral hygiene, grooming, dressing residents, changing bed linens, and tidying the room.

Ensure residents are turned and repositioned every two hours as needed.
Carry out routine treatment procedures, including the application of heat and cold devices.
Accurately measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, and blood pressure in a timely manner, performing re-takes as necessary.
Assist patients with meals and distribute drinking water and snacks promptly.
Respond to call lights and anticipate patient needs, making rounds of assigned patients.

Assist with the care of residents' personal belongings (glasses, dentures, contact lenses, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices).

Collect and transport specimens following established procedures.

Ensuring a Safe Environment for Residents:
Maintain the bed in a low position, ensure siderails are up as per policy, and keep the call light within the patient's reach.
Assist with range of motion exercises, ambulation, wheelchair mobility, and bowel and bladder training.
Serve and clear food trays in a timely manner.
Record vital signs for new admissions upon arrival.
CommunicationDeliver essential information accurately and promptly.
Support co-workers and maintain a cooperative and helpful working relationship.
Follow directions from Managers, RNs, LPNs, and preceptors positively.
Communicate problems, concerns, and issues appropriately across departments.
Respond to patient requests promptly and courteously.
Encourage teamwork.
Assist with patient admissions, discharges, or transfers.

Regular contacts, within or outside the organization to exchange information.
Requires courtesy, tact, and a basic understanding of organizational procedures.
Qualifications/RequirementsEntry-level knowledge; basic employment skills.

Education/Knowledge:

Experience:
Less than one yearTechnical/Clinical Skills (Usage):Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:American Heart Association CPR Certification. Must pass the GNA exam within the first 90 days. Must be a graduate of an accredited CNA program. CNA license or 90-day Temporary CNA license must be posted to the Maryland Board of Nursing Site.
