Head Grower

Van Klaveren's Nursery, a reputable wholesale nursery in the Pacific Northwest, is seeking a skilled Head Grower to oversee all aspects of plant production and greenhouse operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in horticulture, particularly in greenhouse management, and possess strong knowledge of plant care, pest and disease management, and crop production. They will be responsible for developing and implementing crop plans and schedules, monitoring plant health, and implementing pest and disease control measures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all aspects of plant production and greenhouse operations.
• Develop and implement crop plans and schedules.
• Monitor plant health and implement pest and disease control measures.
• Implement and oversee plant propagation techniques, including seeding, cutting, grafting, and tissue culture.
• Manage propagation schedules to ensure a continuous supply of high-quality plants.
• Utilize knowledge of plant genetics and characteristics to monitor and identify genetic drift, ensuring plant quality and consistency.
• Keep detailed records of plant characteristics, growth patterns, and any observed genetic variations.
• Manage and mentor a team of growers and support staff.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in horticulture, particularly in greenhouse management.
• Strong knowledge of plant care, pest and disease management, and crop production.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
• Eye for detail and professional presentation.
• Ability to maintain focus while working individually and leading a team.
• Ability to operate tractors in a variety of weather conditions.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); further education in horticulture or a related field is a plus.
