An MRI technologist operates MRI machines to create detailed images of the inside of a patient's body, which are used by doctors to diagnose and treat various medical conditions. This role requires positioning patients correctly, ensuring safety protocols are followed, maintaining equipment, and providing high-quality images while delivering compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Pre-Procedure Preparation:
    • Review patient medical history, doctor's orders, and previous imaging studies
    • Explain the MRI procedure to the patient, addressing questions or concerns
    • Ensure necessary documentation is completed before the procedure
    • Verify patient identity and screening criteria
    • Prepare and position the MRI room
  2. Conducting MRI Scans:
    • Operate the MRI machine, adjusting settings as prescribed
    • Position patients on the MRI table, ensuring comfort and alignment
    • Administer contrast agents as prescribed
    • Ensure patient remains still during the scan
    • Monitor the MRI process
  3. Patient Safety and Comfort:
    • Ensure patient safety during the MRI procedure
    • Keep patients informed during the scan
    • Monitor patient condition during the scan
    • Ensure proper patient positioning
  4. Post-Procedure Care:
    • Assist the patient off the MRI table
    • Provide post-procedure instructions
    • Ensure required post-scan imaging is scheduled
    • Address any immediate concerns
  5. Maintenance and Equipment Care:
    • Maintain the MRI machine and equipment
    • Clean and disinfect the MRI suite and equipment
    • Monitor equipment performance
  6. Collaboration with Medical Team:
    • Communicate effectively with physicians and other medical staff
    • Work with healthcare professionals to review images and discuss patient conditions
    • Collaborate with radiologists
  7. Documentation and Record-Keeping:
    • Document patient information and scan results in the EHR
    • Ensure imaging data is properly labeled and uploaded
    • Maintain logs of equipment usage and maintenance
  8. Radiation Safety and Protocols:
    • Follow guidelines for handling contrast agents and equipment
    • Adhere to radiation safety standards
    • Follow established safety protocols
  9. Professional Development and Training:
    • Stay current with MRI technology and patient care practices
    • Participate in continuing education programs
    • Assist in training new MRI technologists
    Benefits and Compensation

The salary for this role is approximately $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. The pay package includes tax-free stipends and benefits typical for travel positions in the allied health field.
