Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Paraprofessional to join our team at Isaac G. Joseph Elem. The successful candidate will provide instructional and non-instructional support to our students and teachers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support
    • Assist teachers in carrying out their job responsibilities by performing instructional tasks for students with disabilities.
    • Work with individual or small groups of students to reinforce skills and concepts.
    • Provide instructional leadership when working with substitute teachers.
    • Assist with specific skills, such as interpreting, as required by exceptionality.
    • Prepare materials to help meet individual differences, such as rewriting reading materials for less able readers.
  • Non-Instructional Support
    • Help organize the classroom at the beginning of the school year.
    • Arrange the room for instructional activities.
    • Become familiar with and follow all regulations and policies of the school and school board.
    • Attend faculty meetings when requested.
    • Provide assistance for the physical and medical needs of students with disabilities, after proper training is provided.
    • Attend and participate in pre-service and in-service workshops as mandated by Board policy.
    • Follow the daily schedule and inform the assigned teacher of any changes made by the administrator.
    • Collect monies, take attendance, and complete absence and illness reports.
    • Inventories, labels, and files materials related to the individual assistant's assignment.
    • Correct objective tests and written assignments, record information on test booklets, in roll books, and on health forms.
    • Assist with snack time.
    • Help students with personal possessions and accompany them to the office, first aid room, rest room, etc.
    • Maintain discipline standards according to the regulations of the school system and the assigned teacher.
    • Relieve assigned teachers for conferences and emergencies.
    • Obtain, secure, set up, and operate A-V equipment and other instructional materials.
    • Set up centers for work materials, listening stations, etc.
    • Perform assigned limited non-instructional duties, such as lunchroom supervision, playground supervision, bus duty, and other tasks assigned by the principal.
    Work Environment and Hours
    • The Paraprofessional will work in a school setting, climate-controlled environment, adhering to School Board energy policy, and in outside areas subject to climate extremes.
    • The workday is consistent with teacher hours at the assigned school.
    • The workday may be adjusted for Board-approved summer schedules or emergencies.
    Communication and Physical Demands
    • Communication must be in standard English, both orally and in writing.
    • Communication must be commensurate with the age and skill of the listener.
    • The Paraprofessional must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information, and provide written reports to the supervisor.
    • The job requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting, as well as physically transferring, restraining, or positioning students.
    • The Paraprofessional must be able to provide own transportation to school or workshop sites.
    • The job requires the ability to perform non-complex healthcare procedures, if required, for students in need of such services.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • An Associate Degree
    • Forty-eight (48) hours of approved college courses
    • Pass ParaPro Praxis and have a high school diploma and/or equivalency
    • Eighteen (18) years of age or older
    • Twenty-one (21) years of age or older for employment in high school
    • Must agree to participate in paraeducator training and enroll in sign language course, if assigned to a hearing-impaired class
    Desirable Qualifications
    • Previous experience working with children
